Forgiveness

Updated: Sep 15, 2021

Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends ~ Proverbs 17:9

Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do~ I Corinthians 13:5

There is an old saying that goes...."Everyone in life is going to hurt you, you just have to figure out which ones are worth the pain". In this world full of sin, one of the hardest principles to accept is the fact that going through pain, whether physically, mentally or psychologically is inevitable. God never promised life would be easy. God speaks to us over and over in the Bible about how to lean on him in times of trouble, pain and sorrow. What we all must realize is that when we go through struggles we must all choose to forgive and forgive quickly. Holding onto anguish and resentment does more harm to our physical bodies than it does to the other person(s) involved. Normally in the wake of our hurt we do not think about how the pain is affecting us, we just are upset, mad or infuriated at what has occurred.

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you ~ Matthew 6:14

When we forgive we must remember that forgiveness in unconditional. It is not required that we forget, or that by doing so instantaneously all of the pain from the transgression dissipates, but it allows us to take the first step forward to heal. You are not responsible for the transgression that has been done against you, but you are responsible for healing yourself. When you forgive you allow God to come in and begin to mend your heart. All God is asking is for you to take the first step forward and allow Him to lead the way and have faith in Him.
